HOW TO CHANT SHIVA GAYATRI

Sit comfortably in a quiet and clean place.

Take a few slow breaths and bring your attention inward.

Chant the mantra slowly:

ॐ तत्पुरुषाय विद्महे
महादेवाय धीमहि
तन्नो रुद्रः प्रचोदयात् ॥

Focus on the pronunciation, rhythm, and meaning.

Allow the mind to become calm and centred on Mahadev.

You may use a Rudraksha mala if you wish to maintain a traditional japa count.

WHEN TO CHANT

The Shiva Gayatri Mantra can be included in your regular prayer or meditation practice.

Many devotees choose peaceful times such as:

Early Morning
Begin the day with remembrance of Shiva.

Evening
Create a quiet space for reflection and devotion.

During Meditation
Use the mantra as a focus for contemplation.

During Shiva Puja
Include it as part of personal devotional practice.

Choose a time when you can practise peacefully and without unnecessary distractions.

HOW MANY TIMES SHOULD YOU CHANT?

You can choose a repetition count according to your personal practice.

11 repetitions — simple daily practice.

21 repetitions — a longer devotional practice.

108 repetitions — traditional japa count.

1008 repetitions — extended devotional practice.

There is no need to rush. A calm and sincere practice is more meaningful than simply completing a large number.

RUDRAKSHA JAPA

A Rudraksha mala can help you maintain your count while chanting.

Hold the mala gently and repeat the Shiva Gayatri Mantra with each bead.

A traditional mala commonly contains 108 beads.

Keep your attention on the mantra and its meaning.

Allow each repetition to become an opportunity to remember Mahadev.

A SIMPLE DAILY SHIVA GAYATRI PRACTICE

Find a peaceful place.

Light a diya if appropriate.
